iGM

To those who do not know, GM is Genetic Modification.

Did you know that most of the food we eat now is actually Genetically Modified? Yes, they are not myths and legends where scientist in white robes play around in test-tubes and stuff, its true! The corn you ate last night, the pork that you pounced on and even the milk that you drank last week when you thought no one was around. Cows, Pigs, Fishy~ Vege~ THEY ARE ALL GMed!

Now, Gm brings about good and bad stuff but lets for now focus on the good stuff. The world is currently growing in a tremendous rate, meaning there is a lack of food for everyone. It is not as easy to say "make more farms" as firstly not everyone wants to be a farmer and of course if the incentive is right they will be a good number that will become one. Interestingly, we tend to forget that if there is a super big increase in human population, that means we need the land to build houses to stay as well and there is a limit to wear we can grow or rear animals (there is only 3% fresh water in the world which i believe most are ice bergs) but anyways we have to the water problem as well as lack of areas (deserts in the world, human areas etc). Gm allows an increase in food supply cause more food can be grown from the same plant with bigger, better and more nutritional foods. Yes this also includes animals. Yes there have been deformities in animals etc, many questionable problems that society points at them but seriously, Gm solves many of the modern day problems. So the question is, is it good to have Gm?

Now personally, i do not prefer the path for Gm. Who are we to "play God" and try creating new species from out of random animals. Inserting genes, e.g. Bacteria genes into sunflowers (shocks you isn't it?) to obtain oil that i supposed to come from fish (Thus fish oil or more commonly know cod-liver oil). Heard of
Liger"? Its a cross of a LIon and a tiGER, go google it, u will find a picture of this beast. Now, you may say about how about not putting tigers and lions together but just perhaps tomatoes with tomatoes. Different varieties. If they were doing it naturally its fine to me but its the questionable fact of what they do in the labs. Manipulating genes etc. I do admit to the fact that it solves many of the world's problems esp. Food Security (lack of food), the rising interest in Bio-fuels etc. But what is wrong is wrong no matter whether it is done for good or not.

Now lets look at an example:

I believe many of you who are reading this blog is acquainted to the word "stealing". Either you have been the person who did it, the victim, one of ur friend's stuff has been stolen before, you read it before in a book or you do not know what it is (in which case if u are above 12 years old i'll call you sad). I think most of you who do know this word do know it is a crime to steal, in order words its an offence. Its not a nice thing to do.

Steal is defined as: Take dishonestly or embezzle.

Doesn't sound too nice does it? You see, i think we all know stealing is not a good thing. How about the case of a little child stealing the piece of bread for his family who is poor, father is dead and their mother is bed-ridden. Now we go sentimental and forgive him for he has to find a way to feed his family right? To take care of his family etc, we turn against the grumpy, not understanding owner who chases after the little kid.

A classic example is Robin Hood. I hope all of you have heard of this kid (actually guy). He robs the rich to give the poor. Its a bed-time story or i'll actually classify it as a fairy-tale. What he did was good, he gave to the poor but no matter, he still did a crime. He stole.

Its not what you do with the money that makes it right or wrong, its the action that brought you that money. See, lets look at a lighter case of stealing. Supposedly a guy only has enough money to make ends meet and recently, his friend met into an accident and is bed-ridden in the hospital. Now, this poor chap who find it hard to make ends meet has to help out in the hospital bills. He decides to steal to help his friend just that bit. Not that bad eh? How about i notch it up again, a family is doing fine. Children in school, eldest in university etc, nice home, moderate car etc. But the father wants a better life for them so he decides to steal. Now not that forgiving right? How about the infamous NKF case that happened in Singapore where the CEO/President of NKF (National kidney foundation) with his crew (The board of directors etc) stole millions from the company? These are rich people but they are greedy. I don think many Singaporeans actually sympatised with them much. When is the line drawn where one is "legalised" to steal?

You see, what one does with the food, money, i-pod or wadever does not justify the action. It only shows the heart or the reason behind it. It may have been done for the better, for good purposes but it is still wrong. Now to get back to the point i was making before it starts to really side-track, Gm is done for the better of mankind where all scientist are geniunely concerned over the future of man-kind, fame and money. It may be done for the better of mankind but still no matter, if the action is wrong no matter what the heart means to do, its still wrong...

Now, don start boo-ing me now... everyone is entitled to their own beliefs
